Hah! My horse seems to be *quite* clear about how she feels about me. I never have to wonder... ; )
I guess that's not completely true--once Darren started coaching me, I did come to realize that what I thought was disrespect WAS disrespect, but what I thought was disLIKE was often just part of the normal horse politics / horse games, or plain old boredom. So we've been trying to get a LOT more creative (and firm about not moving my feet) and it's amazing how her whole attitude changes when she has puzzles to solve.
I finally noticed the pattern that she always appears to "like" me a whole lot more when I'm asking her to do something unusual, than when we're doing the same old things.
So there's an idea for a blog post I hope you make soon -- creative ideas for things to do with left-brained horses! We've been doing things like:
* backing onto everything -- tarps, over poles, in and out of the stall, etc.
* hula hoop games -- keep the feet inside while pivoting front/rear, and put the hula hoop around the middle (and spin it)
* side passing over whatever we can find -- poles, buckets, tubs
* "treasure hunts" -- putting a few carrots out in various places outside on the ground, and then "finding" them.
But I'm running out of ideas!
Thanks for such great info, you guys.

That's hilarious. I am sure my horses do that to me from time to time.

I agree Mona, I think our horses do it more often than we think! : )

Hay, I know what you are saying! My old horse What is very funny as well. A kid came out with an umbrella and opened it...What did a big summersalt and broke his rope. I think horses do a lot of weird stuff when we are and aren't looking as well!Oh, I left out the best part What had a saddle on!!

Hi Natalie! Your story is kinda scary because the horse could have been injured but it made me laugh out loud simply because your horse is named 'What'. I think that is the best name I've ever heard for a horse : ) ps - sounds like he could use some desensitizing training!
